I need YOUR help!

How many ways can people express who they are as a person through a photograph?

I am looking to collect as many photographs from as many different types of people as possible. These photographs will be shown in a gallery as one big collaborative work on self-representation.

The rules are thus:

The photograph must be a 4x6 inch jpeg between 150 and 200 ppi (dpi), so they will look good when printed.
The photograph must not have any human beings in it, AND the photograph must be a self-portrait, as in, the photograph must say something about who you are.

As long as it fits into these requirements, it WILL be in the show! (Looks great on an artist's resume!)

Here are some examples to get you thinking:

There are a lot of ways to approach this project. Some may want to be more direct: a picture of something you wear every day that you think represents you well; a picture of the tools of your job; a picture of the environment you feel most at home.

Others may want to be more symbolic: A battered house that has been through a lot, but is still standing; a lock that represents how closed you keep yourself; a rushing river that shows how determined and forward-moving you are.

Anything goes!

Do not worry about your skill-level as a photographer! This project is about expression, not technique. Even if your camera isn't top quality, send it on anyway!

You may upload them to an image-hosting site such as Photobucket and send me the link, or you may email the photo directly to starvingmartialartist@gmail.com. If you want to use a real camera and send me a print, email me to request a mailing address.

Again, that's starvingmartialartist@gmail.com and I can't wait to see all of your photographs!

(Sending me your photograph gives me the right to use it as I see fit. However I will not alter, sell, or take credit for the photograph.)

If there are any questions, feel free to email me or post a comment on this blog. I will answer you personally as well as update this blog with a FAQ if needed.
